Through two months of the regular season, the Nebraska swimming and diving team has placed three individuals among the nation’s best on the latest Taper & Shave Top 100.
Junior Lauren Bailey is the highest ranked Husker as she is currently ranks 12th in the nation in the 1,650-yard freestyle with her NCAA provisional qualifying time of 16:34.43 that was set at the Minnesota Invitational on Nov. 20. The San Mateo, Calif., native also sits 15th in the 500-yard freestyle (4:49.61) and 23rd in the 400-yard individual medley (4:22.27).
Junior co-captain Kate Wheeler has also found her name on the charts in three events as she ranks 17th in both the 500- (4:49.67) and 1,650-yard freestyle (16:39.57). She is also 50th in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.41)
Junior Casey Schnack made it a trio of Huskers to make the list in the mile as she is 83rd (17:15.14).
Nebraska’s highest ranked relay is the 800-yard freestyle relay team of Wheeler, junior Michelle Criss, senior Esmie Holderman and Bailey that is 22nd after swimming a time of 7:31.81 at the Minnesota Invite on Nov. 19.
The Huskers next competition is Jan. 7 when they head to Nassau, Bahamas for the Holiday Training Trip Competition before beginning conference action with a dual meet at Kansas on Jan. 14.
