Huskers Conclude Workouts

LINCOLN ? The Nebraska football team concluded game-week preparations for its regular-season finale against Colorado Wednesday with a two-hour workout on the FieldTurf of Memorial Stadium.

Following practice, Head Coach Bill Callahan addressed the challenges his offense will face against a tough Buff defense that ranks first nationally in rush defense.

"I think they do a good job fundamentally up front," Callahan said. "They are strong at the point of attack. They have excellent hand placement across the board, and the second thing you see is their linebacker play. Their entry points are outstanding. They obviously have guys that fit into the front and do an exceptional job of disengaging blocks and getting to the play. They are active. They mix it up quite a bit, so they present a real challenge in a lot of respects."

Callahan also took a moment to commend those student-athletes who were named to the Academic All-Big 12 Team on Tuesday. A conference-leading 22 Huskers earned honors for their efforts in the classroom.

"I think that’s special for our players, and deservedly so," Callahan said. "We have some great kids here that put a lot of time and effort into the academic side, and that’s why they are here. Congratulations to all of those guys. We are really proud of them."

The will hold a team breakfast followed by team meetings and a short walkthough practice Thursday morning before departing for Colorado.

NOTE: The Huskers spent their off-day from classes visiting local hospitals Wednesday morning. Coach Callahan and more than 60 players visited patients at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center and Madonna Rehabilitation Center. For a photo gallery of the day’s events, visit the following link:
