Timko a Semifinalist for National Player of the Year

Lincoln ? Nebraska junior forward Brittany Timko, the reigning two-time Big 12 Soccer Player of the Year, was named a semifinalist for the Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy for the second consecutive season. Timko is one of 15 semifinalists for the award, which is the official National Soccer Coaches Association of America Player-of-the-Year award for Division I.

The recipient of the award will be determined through voting by NSCAA Division I member coaches. The three women’s finalists will be announced at the 2005 Men’s College Cup in December and the winner will be announced on Jan. 6, 2006 in St. Louis.

In an outstanding junior season, Timko broke three school records and one Big 12 Conference record, along with becoming just the second player in league history to earn more than one player-of-the-year honor.

A first-team All-Big 12 selection, Timko finished the 2005 season with team-high totals of 11 goals, 21 assists and 43 points. Last season, Timko became the first player in the history of Nebraska soccer to lead the team in both goals and assists and she repeated the feat this year.

Her 21 assists are a new single-season school and Big 12 record, as she is the first player in school and league history to reach the 20-assist mark in a season. Timko’s eight game-winning assists bettered her previous school record of six, set last season, while her 14 career game-winning assists broke Meghan Anderson’s school record of 13.

Timko scored the Huskers’ lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Creighton in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, marking the 30th goal of her career. Timko has scored 30 career goals and added 30 career assists to join Anderson as the only players in school history to total both 30 goals and assists in a career.

Prior to the NCAA Tournament, Timko ranked second in the nation in assists and assists per game, while leading the Big 12 in both categories. She ranked in the top five among league players in eight offensive categories.
