Huskers in the NFL: Week 10

Week 10 of National Football League action was highlighted by excellent performances from several former Blackshirts.

 

Atlanta linebacker Demorrio Williams turned in another monster performance for the Falcons, recording a career-high 12 tackles, forcing a fumble and intercepting a second-quarter Brett Favre pass in the Falcons 33-25 loss to the Packers. Williams' team-leading season tackle total is now 79, a figure that ranks sixth in the NFL.

 

Former Blackshirts Mike Minter and Mike Rucker helped Carolina hold New York to 214 yards of offense in the Panthers 30-3 win over the Jets. Minter recorded two tackles from his safety spot, while Rucker added four tackles and turned in 0.5 sacks from his defensive end position, bringing his season sack total to 6.5. Jets' defensive end Trevor Johnson recorded his first tackle of the season. Carolina improved to a division-leading 7-2 on the year with its sixth-straight win.

 

In Chicago, safety Mike Brown intercepted San Francisco quarterback Cody Pickett's third-quarter offering for his third interception of the season. He also added six tackles in the Bears' 17-9 wind-blown win over the 49ers. Chicago, 6-3, has now won five games in a row, and holds a two-game division lead.

 

Rookie cornerback Fabian Washington recovered a fumble and recorded two tackles for Oakland in the Raiders' 31-17 loss to the Broncos. Denver improved to 7-2 on the season, while Oakland fell to 3-6.

 

Linebacker Scott Shanle recorded three tackles in his fifth-consecutive start for the Cowboys, helping Dallas to a 21-20 Monday-night win over Philadelphia. Dallas improved to 6-3 on the season, entering a tie with the Giants for the division lead.

 

Kansas City offensive guard Will Shields reached the 200-game consecutive-start mark for the Chiefs, but could not keep his team from dropping to 5-4 on the years, as the Chiefs fell to the Bills, 14-3. Kansas City cornerback Eric Warfield recorded three tackles for the Chiefs, while defensive end Chris Kelsay added five tackles for Buffalo.

 

Buccaneers' rookie linebacker Barrett Ruud logged a tackle in TampaBay's 36-35 win over the Washington.

 

Seattle place kicker Josh Brown was 1-for-1 on field goals and connected on all four of his extra points in the Seahawks' 31-16 win over the Rams. The victory was Seattle's fifth straight, and served to build their division lead over St. Louis to three games. Seahawks' defensive end Grant Wistrom added two tackles in the win, while Rams' cornerback DeJuan Groce turned in six tackles in St. Louis' losing effort.

 

Lions' fullback Cory Schlesinger caught one pass for two yards in the Detroit's 29-21 victory over the Arizona Cardinals.

 

Place kicker Kris Brown connected on his only field goal attempt and was 2-for-2 on extra points for Houston in the Texans 31-17 loss to Indianapolis.

 

Vikings cornerback Ralph Brown recorded two tackles, as Minnesota's Paul Edinger connected on a game-winning 48-yard field goal to give Minnesota a 24-21 over the New York Giants.

 

Overall, a total 33 former Huskers are on NFL rosters, including three players on injured reserve and three players on NFL practice squads. A total of 27 former Huskers are currently on active rosters.
