Nebraska Defends Undefeated Streak against Wildcats

The Nebraska rifle team returns to action this Saturday, Nov. 19 with a home match against the Kentucky Wildcats at the Nebraska Rifle Range at 8 a.m.  The undefeated Huskers will look to extend their winning streak to five and with the win would take the all-time series lead over the Wildcats.  NU has won its last three consecutive matches with Kentucky, which tied the series record at 5-5.  A win would put Nebraska up, 6-5.

Rejoining the Husker lineup this weekend will be sophomore Kim Chrostowski, who recently returned from Puerto Rico where she competed with the Championship of America’s team and was crowned the women’s smallbore champion.  Her re-entry into Nebraska’s smallbore team should help the Huskers make a run at bettering their current season-high of 2,339 in the event.

The 5-2 Wildcats enter this weekend’s competition coming off a win over JacksonvilleState on Nov. 12.  Kentucky’s two losses this season have come from defending national champion Army and perennial powerhouse Alaska-Fairbanks.

Huskers Claim Competitive National Team Scores

With the 2005-06 collegiate rifle season well underway, Nebraska has emerged as a top NCAA contender by posting some of the nation’s top team scores.  The Huskers earned a season-high score of 4,687 against Air Force in their season-opener, which ranks second nationally behind only Alaska-Fairbanks.  The Nanooks posted a season-high of 4,718 against Kentucky on Oct. 29.

Although NU’s scores have dropped in its last two matches, the reason could be that the Huskers lacked their normal lineups with the absence of sophomore smallbore competitor Kim Chrostowski.  Chrostowski’s return this weekend should put Nebraska back into its rhythm, giving the Huskers the opportunity to shoot for those higher scores.

Franz?n Leads NU in Outstanding Air Rifle Effort

In just her second semester as a member of the Nebraska rifle team, sophomore Andrea Franz?n stands atop the NU air rifle squad in leading what has become a highly successful discipline for the Huskers.  Following a second-place finish in air rifle at the NCAA Championships last spring, Franz?n has continued her domination of the event this fall, marking meet-high scores against both Air Force and Ole Miss this season.  Her current season-high score of 593 is the highest mark shot by a Husker in either discipline this year.

But Franz?n’s efforts have not been alone.  The air rifle has also emerged as a strong event for the NU team as a whole this season.  The Huskers boast a season-high score of 2,350 in the event and have not been outscored by an opponent yet.
