Nebraska Opens Conference Play at Ole Miss, Memphis

After opening the 2005-06 season with a pair of wins over Air Force, the Nebraska rifle team takes to the road to begin Great America Rifle Conference competition against Ole Miss and Memphis.  The Huskers head to Oxford, Miss. on Saturday, Nov. 5 to take on the Rebels and finish out the weekend in Memphis, Tenn., for a match with the Tigers.  Both events begin at 8 a.m. central time.

Ole Miss has already gotten off to a record-setting season, marking program-high scores in both the smallbore (2,303) and air rifle (2,334).  The Rebels enter this weekend’s contest following a strong showing on the road with wins over both Xavier and Tennessee Tech.  With this momentum, Ole Miss will attempt to grab its first win against the Huskers since 2003 and improve upon its 1-4 series record with Nebraska.

Memphis enters the contest following a pair of losses on the road against Kentucky and defending national champion, Army.  Against NU, the Tigers own a 1-4 record with their only win coming in January of 1999.

Nebraska Shooters Hit Top Scores in Season Opener

Four Nebraska shooters marked career highs in either smallbore or air rifle during NU’s season-opening weekend against Air Force on Oct. 22 and Oct. 23.  Senior captain Misty Chanek stepped into her leadership role early, shooting a career-high tying score of 591 in the smallbore on Oct. 22.  Sophomore Kim Chrostowski followed by bettering her previous best of 580 in the discipline with a score of 582.

Sophomore Andrea Franz?n reinforced her 2005 second-place NCAA finish in air rifle by marking a 593 in the discipline on Oct. 23 to tie her career-high score.  Junior Stacy Underwood also bested her air rifle score by five points on the same day with a mark of 587.

Chrostowski Heads to Puerto Rico with CAT

The Huskers will be one shooter short this weekend as sophomore Kim Chrostowski travels to Puerto Rico where she will represent North America as a member of the Championships of America Team.  Chrostowski departs for the event on Nov. 1 for the tournament which consists of shooters from South America, North America and Central America.

Chrostowski, who was selected to the team this past summer, will compete alongside some of the nation’s most prominent shooters including Army All-American Chris Abalo.  Chrostowski will miss Nebraska’s matches at Ole Miss and Memphis while traveling with the CAT and will consequently be replaced on the Huskers’ smallbore team during her absence.
