Tom and Nancy Osborne Athletic Complex
The Tom and Nancy Osborne Athletic Complex continues to change daily. Its outer appearance is really taking shape as construction continues. The north face of the strength complex level (ground level) is almost completely in place and some of the 22 foot high windows will be installed in the strength complex during the first part of November. They are 10 feet wide and will be placed 10 feet apart. The precast wall that makes up the exterior of the building is almost completely in place as the west stair tower nears completion. Metal stud framing continues on the first three floors and fire proofing on level four. Mechanical and electrical roughins continue on all floors.
Skybridge
Sampson crews poured the concrete floor in the sky bridge this week that connects the Osborne Complex with the Championship Howard and Rhonda Hawks Championship Center. The Skybridge will allow student-athletes easy access to the Championship Indoor Center from the strength complex, athletic medicine department and football facilities.
Howard and Rhonda Hawks Championship Center
Crews are putting on the finishing touches inside the Howard and Rhonda Hawks Championship Center, such as toilet accessories, millwork and ceiling tiles. The 42,000 square-foot Championship Wing is scheduled for occupancy in February. The field house portion has been released for use. Astroturf has been installed on the concrete for sprint lanes that run the entire length of the building on the west edge of the indoor field. Bleacher seats (480) will soon be installed along the west wall.
Construction Zone to Expand Immediately Following Last Home Game on November 12
After the Kansas State football game on Nov. 12, Sampson will expand their construction zone to include everything north of the football field. Ramps will be torn down and concessions and rest rooms removed. A crane will help remove the first four rows of precast concrete seat planks to convert the space for handicap seating all along the front row of the North stadium. The University of Nebraska and Sampson asks that fans, staff, student-athletes please recognize and make the necessary adjustments in order to accommodate the expanded construction zone.
