Week 7 of National Football League action was an interesting one for former Huskers, highlighted by continued strong performances from former Blackshirts, a game-winning field-goal from Josh Brown, and the season debut of fullback Cory Schlesinger, but masked by the disappointment of another former Husker who suffered a season-ending injury.
Place kicker Josh Brown delivered the game-winning 50-yard field goal for the Seahawks, as Seattle defeated Dallas, 13-10. Brown connected on both of his field goal attempts in the game, with the second coming from 55 yards in the second quarter. Brown was also 1-for-1 on extra point tries. Seahawks defensive end Grant Wistrom recorded his second sack of the season, adding a season-high nine tackles. Linebacker Scott Shanle recorded three tackles for the Cowboys, as he continued to start in place of injured linebacker Dat Nguyen.
Atlanta linebacker Demorrio Williams turned in another monster performance for the Falcons on Monday night, recording one sack and 10 total tackles in the ballgame, bringing his team-leading season total to 60, a figure that ranks fifth in the NFL. Williams helped his Falcons to a 4-2 record with a 27-14 win over the Jets.
In the Green Bay-Minnesota contest, Packers running back Ahman Green suffered a season-ending thigh injury in the fourth quarter. Prior to the injury, Green had collected 49 yards on the ground and had caught two passes for 18 yards. Cornerback Ralph Brown had three tackles for the Vikings, as they defeated the Packers, 23-20, on a last-second 56-yard field goal.
In St. Louis, cornerback DeJuan Groce recorded six tackles for the Rams, helping them to a 28-17 defeat of the Saints. New Orleans rookie safety Josh Bullocks amassed six tackles for the Saints, a career-high total.
Fullback Cory Schlesinger made his return for Detroit, catching two passes for 10 yards and recording a tackle in helping the Lions to a 13-10 win over the Browns. Schlesinger had missed the first six weeks of the season with an injury.
Punter Kyle Larson continued to put up solid numbers for the Bengals, punting the ball four times for a 37.5-yard average. Cincinnati dropped the contest with Pittsburgh, 27-13, in only their second loss of the season.
Titans' defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch recorded another sack and added four tackles for Tennessee in a 20-10 loss to Arizona. Vanden Bosch now has 7.5 sacks on the season, a total that ranks second in the NFL.
Safety Mike Brown had four tackles for Chicago, as the Bears defeated the Ravens, 10-6.
Place kicker Kris Brown was 2-for-2 on extra points for the Texans, but could not help them earn their first victory of the season, as they fell to the undefeated Colts, 38-20.
Bills' defensive end Chris Kelsay recorded three tackles, while Raiders' rookie safety Fabian Washington had two tackles as Oakland defeated Buffalo, 38-17.
On Friday night, in a game moved to accommodate potential issues from Hurricane Wilma, offensive guard Will Shields continued his 197-game consecutive-start streak for the Chiefs, as Kansas City defeated Miami, 30-20. Shields helped a Chiefs' attack that collected 462 yards of total offense.
Overall, a total 33 former Huskers are on NFL rosters, including two players on injured reserve and four players on NFL practice squads. A total of 28 former Huskers are currently on active rosters.
