Salt Lake City?Sophomore Imke Reimers led the Nebraska women’s tennis team by winning her fourth straight match with a victory over Jessica Simosa of Kansas State Sunday, Oct. 23, to win the ITA Central Regional consolation bracket.
Reimers bounced back after dropping her first set, 6-4, to take the second set, 6-4, from conference foe Simosa. Reimers then won a hard-fought tiebreaker, 10-8, to secure the victory.
Assistant coach Hayden Perez was pleased with Reimers’ focus throughout the match.
“It was a nail-biter,” Perez said. “Both players were focused and Reimers earned every point in this match. It was an exciting day.”
The win marks the second straight year Nebraska has brought home a championship from the ITA Central Regionals. Last season, Gitte Ostermann took the singles main draw championship.
