Salt Lake City, Utah?Three members of the Nebraska women’s tennis team comtinued competition Saturday, Oct. 22, in the ITA Central Regional. Sophomore Imke Reimers won two more matches to advance to the finals of the singles consolation bracket.
After falling in the first round of the singles main draw tournament, Reimers began play in the consolation bracket. The native of Germany went on to defeated conference foe Christi Baxley of Oklahoma on Friday, 8-4, and carried her momentum into the quarterfinals on Saturday where she defeated BYU’s Sofia Holden in a three-set thriller, 6-2, 3-6, 10-8. In the semifinals, Reimers faced Kansas’ Elizaveta Avdeeva and dominated the first set, 6-1, before Avdeeva retired in the second set while down, 3-1.
Assistant coach Hayden Perez was pleased with the determination of Imke Reimers.
"Reimers's first match was extremely intense," Perez said. "Both players battled hard and Reimers just played to win."
Reimers faces Jessica Simosa of KansasState Sunday at 10 a.m., ETC, in the finals of the consolation bracket.
In the quarterfinals of the doubles main draw bracket, Reimers and senior Ewelina Skaza fell to Mayori Franco and Karina Ledaja of Arkansas, 8-3.
