Lincoln-The Nebraska football team donned half pads for a two hour practice inside the Cook Pavilion Wednesday, as preparations continued for the 3 p.m. TBS-televised matchup with Texas Tech on Saturday.
In addressing the media after practice, Head Coach Bill Callahan said that Wednesday’s practice was fairly routine in nature.
“We had a regular Wednesday practice,” Callahan said. “We routinely work on short yardage and goal line sets, while working in our 7-on-7 and third-down passing game. We work on our team run and our perimeter blocking patterns. It is also a big kicking day.”
Callahan emphasized the importance that the crowd will play in Saturday’s game.
“I hope that Memorial Stadium is (loud) on Saturday,” Callahan said. “I hope that it is alive, and electric and loud. I hope that we can give our fans something to cheer about. Our fans certainly are into it. They are the greatest fans in the country, and I know that it can be a challenge for a team coming in here that has to communicate at the line of scrimmage and has to vocalize calls.”
Callahan also addressed the punt return situation, and the solid play of both Cortney Grixby and Terrence Nunn.
“Cortney and Terrence continue to both give us quality snaps and they continue to show us production,” Callahan said. “They each bring a different element to the return game, and we try to be smart and not overuse either of them, because they do get a lot of snaps as starters. We intend to continue to have them share that responsibility right now.”
Nebraska will continue its preparations with a Thursday afternoon practice.
