Huskers Advance in Lloyd Stokdad Tournament

Des Moines, Iowa?The Nebraska women’s tennis team opened fall play as select members began the first day of competition on Friday at the Lloyd Stokdad Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa.  The three NU team members combined for six wins in the double-elimination tournament.

 

Assistant coach Hayden Perez was pleased with the way his players performed.

 

“They were focused because they have been beating up on each other in practice every day,” Perez said.  “They were excited to have the opportunity to play different opponents.  There were many positives from this match.”

 

In the Bull Flight Singles Bracket, senior Ewelina Skaza defeated Colorado’s Nicole Thurston in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, but fell in the second round to IowaState’s Jill Palenm 7-6, 6-2. 

 

In the Dog Flight Singles Bracket, senior Jennifer Cremieux saw her first action since her sophomore campaign and dominated her opponents, defeating IowaState’s Elizabeth Chermel in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, before defeating Allison Wilke of Drake, 6-0, 6-0.  Sophomore Ellinor Zugner also advanced to the third round and will face Cremieux in Saturday’s action.

 

In the Blue Flight Doubles Bracket, Zugner and Cremieux defeated Allison Bowlin and Akshara Reddy of Drake, 8-0.  Zugner and Cremieux will face Kari Sloboth and Daria Zawislak of Drake in the second round.

 

The Huskers continue play at the Stokdad Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 16.
