Schmidt Signs Scholarship to Compete at Nebraska

Lincoln - The Nebraska men’s gymnastics team has announced the signing of Timothy Schmidt from Blair, Neb., to compete for the Huskers beginning in 2005-06.

Schmidt, a member of the Nebraska School of Gymnastics, is expected to provide immediate help on the parallel bars and pommel horse in addition to competing in the all-around.

"We expect him to help right away," NU Coach Francis Allen said. "He is that good. We are excited because he is a local kid and has been involved with our program for a couple years."

Last May, TJ Schmidt placed 12th on the parallel bars at the 2005 Men’s Junior Olympic National Championships in Houston, Texas. Schmidt also received national academic recognition from USA Gymnastics.

The Huskers will begin their 2006 season on Jan. 13 at the Rocky Mountain Open.
