Huskers Prepare for Jenna Cooper Memorial Exhibition

The Nebraska soccer team opens practice on Wednesday and will face its first competition of the season when it travels to Louisville, Ky., for the Jenna Cooper Memorial Exhibition on Sunday at 1 p.m.

This season marks the second straight year the Huskers have traveled to Louisville for an exhibition match honoring Cooper. A native of Louisville, Cooper was an All-Big 12 player for Nebraska from 2001 to 2003. Cooper was killed in April of 2004 after the Huskers concluded their spring season. Her jersey was retired before the Alumni Game last August in a ceremony attended by more than 20 members of Cooper’s family.

In her honor, the Jenna Cooper Memorial Scholarship has been established. Donations to the scholarship fund will be accepted at the match and can be made by contacting the Nebraska Development office at (402) 472-2367. More information on the scholarship and on the impact Cooper made on Nebraska can be found by clicking on the above link titled Jenna Cooper Memorial Scholarship.

Following the Sunday match, Nebraska will open its new home in the heart of campus with two events scheduled for next week. The annual Meet-N-Beat the Huskers event will be held at the Nebraska Soccer Field, located immediately northeast of Memorial Stadium in the center of Ed Weir Track, on Thursday, Aug. 18 from 6 to 8 p.m.

The Huskers’ Red/White Scrimmage set for Saturday, Aug. 20 has been moved to a Noon starting time to accommodate fans attending Fan Day for the football team. Nebraska Football Fan Day is scheduled for 10 a.m. at Memorial Stadium.
