Huskers Announce 2005 Schedule

The Husker soccer team has finalized its 2005 schedule, which features 11 home games at the Nebraska Soccer Field, the new on-campus home of NU soccer, located immediately northeast of Memorial Stadium in the Ed Weir Track.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

With the move on campus for the first time in the history of the program, Friday game times will move from their traditional start times. Regular-season non-conference matches will begin at 5 p.m., while Big 12 Conference matches will begin at 4 p.m.

NU opens the 2005 season with an exhibition game at <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Louisville. Following the annual Meet-N-Beat the Huskers night on Aug. 18, Nebraska will hold its Red/White scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 20. NU hosts Minnesota on Friday, Aug. 26 at 5 p.m. to open the regular season.

Nebraska will christen the Nebraska Soccer Field by playing six of its first eight contests at home.

NU’s schedule also features seven games against teams that advanced to the 2004 NCAA Tournament. That field is highlighted by a trip to Illinois, which advanced to the Elite Eight by eliminating the Huskers with a late, dramatic penalty kick in the Sweet 16. In addition to the Fighting Illini, NU faces four other teams that won at least one game in the NCAA Tournament.

Postseason play begins at the Big 12 Tournament in San Antonio, Texas, where the Huskers will be looking to capture their sixth Big 12 Tournament title. NCAA Tournament play opens on Friday, Nov. 11, with Nebraska looking to post a victory in the tournament for the 10th consecutive season and advance to the Sweet 16 for the ninth time in the last 10 years.
