The 2005 Julie Geis Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course on Sunday, Aug. 14. Entry fees are $125 per player and $500 per team and include green fes, a cart, meals and the chance to win great prizes.
Proceeds from the tournament will be used to fund the Julie Geis Memorial Scholarship. Geis, a four-year letterwinner for the Husker softball team from 1976-79 was killed in the World Trade Center attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. The scholarship, which is awarded annually to a current member of the Nebraska softball team, was created in her memory with the goal of making it a fully endowed scholarship.
In order to fully endow the scholarship, $250,000 must be raised and the current total stands at $139,000. Once fully endowed, the scholarship lives off the interest and ensures that both the scholarship and Julie Geis live on forever with the Nebraska softball program.
