Lincoln - A limited edition Rick Anderson print of Hawks Field during the University of Nebraska baseball team’s 6-3 Super Regional victory over the Miami Hurricanes on June 11, is being made available to bidders on the Husker Auction site on Huskers.com beginning Friday, July 1 at 9 a.m. The auction is scheduled to be open for bidding until Monday, July 18, at 9 a.m.
A total of 57 prints of Nebraska’s historic victory over the Hurricanes, which clinched the Huskers’ third appearance in the College World Series, were individually numbered and signed and 55 will be available for Nebraska fans and collectors to own (minimum bid of $100). The other two prints will be set aside for Nebraska Head Coach Mike Anderson (No. 27) and third baseman Alex Gordon (No. 4), who each personally autographed the 57 prints in the edition.
Gordon, Nebraska’s first USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award and Xanthus Dick Howser Award winner, is standing on third base with the bases loaded in the third inning for the Huskers. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2005 MLB Draft and Baseball America National Player of the Year, Gordon scored moments later to help the Huskers take a commanding 5-0 lead over the Hurricanes in the contest.
Gordon, a two-time All-American and two-time Big 12 Conference Player of the Year, also hit a two-run home run in the first inning of the game to help power the Huskers to victory.
Rick Anderson’s striking 36-inch wide by 18-inch tall photo captures the momentous occasion and championship atmosphere of Hawks Field, where the Huskers averaged a school-record 4,983 fans per game during the 2005 season, including a school-record crowd of 8,711 for the 6-3 win over Miami on June 11.
Each unframed print will include a certificate of authenticity.
