The 2005 <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Nebraska softball team finished the season ranked 25th in the nation in the final USA Today/NFCA coaches poll. Michigan, which defeated UCLA in a best-of-three championship series, earned the top spot.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
Nebraska has been ranked in the final poll in each of the 11 seasons the poll has existed and the Huskers are one of only six programs in the nation to be ranked in 11 consecutive final polls.
NU finished the season with a 36-23 record, marking the eighth straight year NU has recorded at least 35 wins. The Huskers earned their 11th consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament and served as host for the third straight season.
Nebraska played one of the toughest schedules in the nation, playing 22 games against ranked teams, including 20 games against top-15 opponents. The Huskers managed to defeat eight ranked teams, including five top-15 foes.
