Future Husker Named High School All-American

Jamie Klages, a goalkeeper for Coronado (Calif.) High, was one of two goalkeepers and 20 players named to the EA SPORTS High School All-American Girls Soccer team, announced on Monday. Klages signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Nebraska soccer team, and will be a freshman this fall.

Klages, who was recently selected to participate in the U.S. Soccer Federation Under-20 National Team training camp, was a first-team San Diego Union-Tribune all-state selection after leading Coronado to the section title.

In goal for Coronado, Klages posted 50 shutouts while leading the Islanders to an 81-11-12 mark and two Division III titles in her career. In a stellar senior season, she recorded 18 shutouts in 30 games. Her 50 career shutouts rank third on the all-time section list.

Klages also got involved in the offense, scoring three goals and seven assists in three seasons.

An excellent all-around athlete, Klages also excels in track and field. Her career-best high jump of 5-10 ? would have won the 2005 Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships by nearly two inches. She also holds the Coronado school record in not only the high jump, but as a member of the 4x400-meter relay squad and in the 100-meter hurdles.

One of 11 newcomers that make up an outstanding 2005 recruiting class, Klages and the Nebraska soccer team open the season with an exhibition at Louisville on Aug. 14. The second-annual Alumni Game will follow on Aug. 20, and the regular-season home opener is set for Aug. 26 against Minnesota.
