York, Neb. - The 2005 Husker Nation Tour headed west from Lincoln with a pair of Team 3 tour stops on Interstate 80, beginning with a trip to York before moving on to Kearney to close the day. Nebraska football coach Bill Callahan headlined the tour stops in York and Kearney, along with new receivers coach Ted Gilmore and NU softball head coach Rhonda Revelle.
The tour stop in York opened at the York City Auditorium at 11 a.m., with a lunch served to all 200 people in attendance. The athletic department staff members arrived shortly before noon, when the event officially began. The participants received first-hand instruction from the Husker coaches in York, as the NU staff members took fans inside the huddle. The coaches treated the fans to three 18-minute sessions in which they walked them through specific aspects of Nebraska's on-field coaching techniques.
Nebraska head coach Bill Callahan and receivers coach Ted Gilmore offered the fans in York to a dose of the West Coast Offense, while graduate assistant coach Aaron Stamn tutored the Husker Nation Tour participants on defense.
Nebraska softball head coach Rhonda Revelle provided a change of pace for the Husker fans by showcasing her techniques to the participants.
Coach Callahan said the reception the Husker Nation Tour received in York was inspiring.
"It was exciting to see the Husker Nation come out in full force here in York," Callahan said. "It is a great to get out and interact with the fans across the state."
Associate Athletic Director for Football Tim Cassidy was also on hand for the day's events, along with the voice of Memorial Stadium Patrick Combs, who served as the emcee for the event.
One lucky fan attending the York tour stop, Tim Mausex, won two tickets to Nebraska's season-opening football game with the Maine Black Bears on Saturday, Sept. 3, at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.
