Jensen Selected by Washington in MLB Draft

Lincoln ? Relief pitcher Brett Jensen became the third Husker pitcher selected in the 2005 MLB First-Year Player Draft, as he was selected by the Washington Nationals in the 23rd round on Wednesday (No. 684 overall).

The 6-foot-7 right-hander from Eagle Grove, Iowa, enters this weekend’s Super Regional with Miami posting a3-4 record with 13 saves and a 2.09 ERA in a team-high 29 appearances. The junior ranks 13th nationally and second in the Big 12 with 13 saves, a total that broke Nebraska’s single-season mark in 2005.

Jensen, who is two saves away from Nebraska’s career mark of 17, earned second-team All-Big 12 honors in 2005, helping the Huskers to a school-record 54 wins and its third Big 12 title in six years.

This is the second time Jensen has been drafted, as he was picked in the 45th-round of the 2003 Draft by Baltimore. He joins fellow Husker pitchers Brian Duensing (3rd, Minnesota) and Zach Kroenke (5th, New York Yankees) off of a staff that is second nationally with a 2.62 ERA.
