NU-UIC game notes

Nebraska Game Notes:

**-- Junior catcher Jeff Christy threw out 3-of-4 would-be base stealers Friday, including gunning down Shane Crowder twice. Christy has thrown out 19-of-45 base stealers this season.

** Christy hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, which bounced out of the glove of left fielder Bart Babineaux and over the wall. It was the first home run for Christy this season in 167 at bats. Christy finished the game 2 for 3 with three runs scored. The two hits tied his career high set six times, last against Oklahoma on May 26.

**-- Freshman Andy Gerch continued his strong late-season push, as he finished the game going 2 for 4 with a run scored. Gerch has 12 hits in 21 at bats over the past six games, starting with the Huskers' first elimination game during the Big 12 Tournament.

**-- Sophomore Joba Chamberlain gave up a season-high nine hits over 5.1 innings. He allowed five runs with three walks while striking out four but was not a factor in the decision, as the Huskers came back with three runs in the sixth inning. The three walks were one off his season high.

**-- The announced attendance of 7,669 was the sixth-largest crowd in Hawks Field history, and the 11th time this season NU has had more than 6,000 fans on hand for a game.

**-- Brian Duensing came on in the sixth inning in relief and stretched his scoreless innings streak to 17.2 straight innings before allowing a solo home run in the top of the eighth. Duensing had gone 15.2 consecutive scoreless innings over two games in the Big 12 Tournament.

**-- Closer Brett Jensen increased his NU single-season record by picking up his 13th save of the season. He went 1.0 inning allowing one hit with two strikeouts.

UIC Game Notes:

**-- Right fielder Shane Crowder hit a solo shot to left field in the eighth inning, his seventh home run of the season. Crowder was 4 for 4 at the plate with two RBIs and two runs. He added a double and two singles to finish a triple away from the cycle.

**-- Crowder's four hits in the game tied his career high set twice earlier this season

**-- First baseman Mark Hallberg connected with three hits on the day, and now has 82 hits on the season. He is only the third player in UIC history to record at least 80 hits in a campaign.

**-- Starting pitcher Ryan Zink tossed 5.1 innings allowing 10 hits and seven runs (five earned) before suffering the loss. Zink walked three but did not have a strikeout, the first time in 22 appearances this season that he did not have a strikeout.

**-- UIC fell to 30-3 on the year when recording at least as many hits as its opponent. The Flames also fell to 15-3 when recording at least 12 hits in a game this season. UIC had 14 hits against Nebraska, which finished with 11.

**-- Illinois at Chicago fell to 18-3 on the season when hitting a home run in a game. The Flames hit two home runs on the day, including one each by Ted Rosinski and Shane Crowder.

**-- Rosinski's home run was his sixth on the year to tie for third on team this season, while Crowder moved into sole possession of second place with his seventh home run this season. As a team, the Flames have hit 40 round-trippers this year. Rosinski also finished the game just a triple short of the cycle.

**-- Centerfielder Larry Gempp went 1 for 3 on the day to extend his hitting streak to 11 games.

**-- Ryan Zink's scoreless streak was snapped at 15.1 innings.

**-- UIC was thrown out three times trying to steal, tying a team-season, high.

**-- UIC has tied the school-record, set in 1985, with 422 runs scored this season.
