UIC pre-tournament quotes

Head Coach Mike Dee
Opening Statement
"We are obviously very excited to be here. Ryan (Zink) will start the first game, and to be honest with you, as far as we are concerned, we’re just playing tomorrow’s game. Whatever we have to do to put ourselves in a position to win, we will do. We will worry about the second game on Saturday. Right now it is Ryan and staff and we’ll see where we go from there."

On being the fourth seed
"I think we are in a position where we feel excited to be here. We see this as a great opportunity to play one of the best teams in the country, possibly the best team in the country, at one of the top venues in the country. We are excited about that and we are seeing it as an opportunity."

On the crowd
"Anytime you come into a ballpark like this, it is an exciting thing to play in front of thousands of fans. Fortunately, we played at Arkansas earlier this year and played in front of 9,000 people over three days. This isn’t a total culture shock for us. We have heard that the fans here are obviously huge Husker fans but also enjoy good baseball and will treat teams that play well with respect."

Sophomore Pitcher Ryan Zink
On the crowd
"We have played in this type of environment before and really it is just ?Go out there and play ball.’ The fans are here to see good baseball and all we can do is give it to them."

On Nebraska’s lineup
"Really, I have no control over what they can do. Just looking at their lineup top to bottom, they are very strong. They are a top-10, top-five team in the nation, so they will be very solid at the plate. All I can do is go out there and throw strikes and let my defense work for me."

Senior Outfielder Shane Crowder
On the environment
"When you are growing up playing baseball, this is the type of atmosphere that you dream of. You dream of coming into big stadiums and playing in front of a lot of people. Obviously there is going to be a lot of pressure for us playing in front of a big crowd, as there would be for anybody 18 to 22 (years old). I am not going to say that there won’t be any pressure, but we are going to come out relaxed and play the game that we want to play."
