The University of Nebraska Athletic Department announced Friday that Shot Kleen has been promoted to Director of Technology. In his new position, Kleen will oversee all of the broadcasting, engineering, computer, and technology advances. Kleen is in his 11th year in the Nebraska Athletic Department and has played a primary role in the development and success of HuskerVision. <?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
Kleen has served as the chief engineer for HuskerVision for eight years and is beginning his third year of overseeing HuskerVision operations and administration. Kleen provides engineering support for <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Nebraska’s HuskerVision screen operations in Memorial Stadium and the BobDevaneySportsCenter. HuskerVision is also responsible for the production Nebraska’s five coaches’ television shows.
As a key leader in his field, Kleen and HuskerVision Creative Director Kirk Hartman have helped HuskerVision produce a number of other leaders nationwide in the field of video technology as evidenced by the growing list of former HuskerVision students excelling in the field. Two HuskerVisions graduates, Kay Gertsen and Mike Maryott, have earned full-time positions with HuskerVision.
Athletic Director Steve Pederson said he is pleased to have Kleen take charge full time of this growing and exciting part of the athletic department.
“Shot has great respect throughout our department and has kept HuskerVision on the front end of all technological advances over the past decade,” Pederson said.
Kleen joined the Nebraska athletic department after more than two decades as an engineer and production specialist in the Lincoln television market. He worked at KOLN/KGIN-TV from 1971 to 1993, where in addition to his regular job duties, Kleen also served as the technical director for Tom Osborne and Bob Devaney’s coaches shows. Kleen also spent five years as an engineer for NET.
“I appreciate the confidence Steve Pederson has in me to lead this important aspect of the athletic department,” Kleen said. “Technology brings rapid changes to the daily activities of the athletic department. I am excited to help serve the technical needs of our department and also to provide our fans and student-athletes enjoyable experiences through our big screen and coaches show productions.”
