Two Huskers Earn Honors

Lincoln -- A pair of Nebraska baseball players were honored on Tuesday, as right-hander Joba Chamberlain was selected as the Big 12's Co-Pitcher of the Week, while third baseman Alex Gordon was named to USA Baseball's Golden Spikes Award Watch List.

Chamberlain earned his second Big 12 honor of the season after holding eighth-ranked Baylor to one run on eight hits in an 8-4 win on Friday. Chamberlain, who improved to 6-0 while lowering his ERA to 1.84, struck out 10, reaching double figures for the fourth time this season. In his last three outings Chamberlain is 2-0 with a 1.04 ERA with 25 strikeouts and three walks over his last 26 innings of work. Chamberlain shared the honor with Texas A&M's Robert Ray, who did not allow a run in 11.0 innings of work last week.

Gordon was one of players named to the Golden Spikes Award watch list, which is presented to the nation's top college player. The Lincoln native is hitting a Big 12 best .406 with 14 homers and 41 RBIs. The junior leads the Big 12 in five offensive categories, including runs scored, walks, on-base and slugging percentage. It marks the second straight year that Gordon has been on the Golden Spikes Watch List.

Nebraska, which is 34-8 and ranked as high as fifth nationally, travels to Wichita State Wednesday evening. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. and will be carried nationally on ESPNU (Ch. 609 on DirecTV).
