The Nebraska football program earned its first Life Skills Team Award of Excellence in 2005, edging out the inaugural champions from the women’s basketball team.
The footballl team earned the award that is presented to the NU team that demonstrates the strongest commitment to all phases of the Nebraska Life Skills Program over the past academic year, including outreach, education and leadership.
The Life Skills Award is presented at NU’s annual Student-Athlete Academic Recognition Banquet at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in April.
While the football team won the team award, the women’s basketball team was one of four Life Skills Gold Level programs (teams with more than 3,000 Life Skills points), along with the football, volleyball and women’s gymnastics squads. The Nebraska softball team was honored as a Life Skills Silver Level program by accumulating more than 2,000 Life Skills points during the year, while the rifle, wrestling, swimming and diving, women’s track and field and women’s golf programs were each awarded the Life Skills Bronze Level award for posting more than 1,000 Life Skills points.
