The Nebraska football team hit the practice field before dawn on Thursday, going to work at 5:45 a.m. in the final spring workout before Saturday’s Red-White Game at Memorial Stadium.
Wake-up calls came extremely early on Thursday, as the training room was open for taping beginning at 4:30 a.m. Coach Bill Callahan’s team completed the spirited practice at about 7:15 a.m., shortly after sunrise. For the first time since the opening two practices of the spring, the Huskers were in sweats and helmets as they went through a final walk-thru before Saturday’s game. Following the practice, it was off to class for the Husker players, before they return to the South Stadium this afternoon for position group meetings.
More than 20,000 advance tickets for the Spring Game had been sold as of Wednesday, and a large crowd is expected for Saturday’s Red-White contest. More than two dozen former Huskers currently playing in the National Football League will be on hand for the game, as will the three key members of Nebraska’s 1983 Scoring Explosion Offense?quarterback Turner Gill, I-back Mike Rozier and wingback Irving Fryar.
Fans are encouraged to get to their seats early as the NFL players will be honored before kickoff, while Fryar, Gill and Rozier will be welcomed back to Memorial Stadium after the first quarter. Tickets for Saturday’s game remain available in advance at Huskers.com or by phone or in person at the Nebraska Athletic Ticket Office.
