Lincoln- The NCAA sent out its invitations for the women's gymnastics national championships on Monday morning, setting the 12-team field at the NCAA Championships hosted by AuburnUniversity at Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum from April 21-23.
The Big 12 Champion and South Central Regional runner-up Huskers will take on Michigan, LSU, Oklahoma, Utah and Penn State in the first session of the preliminary round on Thursday, April 21. The event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., and NU will begin on vault, followed by a bye, uneven bars, balance beam, bye and floor exercise.
Second-round action, which is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, will include defending national champion UCLA, as well as Alabama, Georgia, IowaState, BYU and Florida.
Freshman Emily Parsons, the South Central Regional all-around, vault and floor exercise champion, will lead the sixth-ranked Huskers into their seventh straight NCAA Championships appearance.
The status of senior Richelle Simpson, who suffered a knee injury on floor at Saturday’s regional competition at the DevaneyCenter, is unknown at this time. Simpson, the 2005 South Central Regional Co-Gymnast of the Year, earned the balance beam championship on Saturday night and was the 2003 NCAA all-around and floor exercise champion.
