Lincoln, Neb?The No. 30 Nebraska women’s tennis team defeated Oklahoma State, 4-3, in the last home match of the season on Sunday, April 3, at the NU Varsity Courts. NU improves to 15-2 overall and 6-2 in the conference.
Head Coach Scott Jacobson was pleased with the way his team competed.
"It was an amazing day," Jacobson said. "We knew that they would play at a high level. I am proud of how we competed. There were some tough matches, but we persevered and go the victory."
The Huskers began the day by taking the doubles point. At the No. 2 slot, junior Ewelina Skaza and freshman Imke Reimers and junior Ewelina Skaza improved to 14-3 on the year when they rolled over Jessica Collins and Sandra Blajer, 8-1. At the No. 3 slot, junior Pamela Castillejos and freshman Ellinor Zugner clinched the doubles point by defeating Lauren Simmons and Jennifer Poskitt, 8-6.
In singles play, Reimers won a three-set thriller at the No. 2 slot, defeating Zana Masnic, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2. Castillejos, at the No. 4 slot, improved to a team best 16 wins by dominating Collins in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, while Zugner pulled out a victory over Blajer at the No. 6 slot, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.
OSU falls to 5-11 on the season.
The Big Red travels to Ames, Iowa, to take on Iowa State on Saturday, April 16.
