Huskers Look to Defend Title in Orlando

Lincoln ? The top-ranked Nebraska bowling team earned an official invitation Wednesday to compete in the 2005 NCAA Women’s Bowling Championships, April 14-17 in Orlando, Fla.  Eight teams complete the field, including seven ranked by the National Tenpin Coaches Association released March 28.  Along with NU, New JerseyCity, Fairleigh Dickinson, CentralMissouri State, Sacred Heart, Bethune Cookman, Maryland- Eastern Shore, and FayettevilleState will compete for the title.

 

Nebraska, the defending national champions, earned six tournament titles during the 2004-05 season, including the last four tournaments of the season.  The Huskers finished the regular season with an overall record of 65-8.

 

“In practice we have really turned up the heat as we begin to make final adjustments before heading to Orlando,” said head coach Bill Straub.  “We want there to be as much opportunity for success as possible, and we want to be prepared.”

 

The Nebraska bowing team made NCAA history last season by earning the first-ever NCAA national championship.  Shannon Pluhowsky lead NU to the tournament crown and was named tournament co-MVP with an average of 233.  The Huskers return all seven bowlers who competed in the 2004 inaugural NCAA championships.

 

“We are expected to do well, and I hope for the best,” said Straub.
