For the third straight year, junior Amie Buoy will compete at the NCAA Zone D Diving meet this Friday and Saturday, March 11-12, at the Student Recreation Center Natatorium in College Station, Texas. Buoy will be competing for a chance to advance to the NCAA Championships, March 17-19 in West Lafayette, Ind.
Buoy will compete in the three meter competition at 4:15 p.m. on Friday, and the one meter dive at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
The Edmonton, Alberta native finished sixth on the three meter (469.25) and seventh on the one meter (491.90) last year. Buoy also placed 10th on the three meter as a freshman at the 2003 NCAA Zone D diving meet.
Buoy met the NCAA qualifying standing in the three meter in every meet this season except one. Her career best score of 500.45 at the Minnesota Invitational earned her November Big 12 Diver of the Month honors, and replaced her previous best of 498.60 as the No. 5 best mark on NU’s all-time list. Buoy won the three-meter dive four times during her junior year, all in dual meet competitions. She also placed second at the Big 12 Championships and versus Southern Illinois.-
On the one meter, Buoy compiled top scores of 269.24 and 269.10 to qualify for the NCAA Zone Diving meet. Buoy also took first versus Missouri and Kansas, and added second-place finishes at the Big 12 Championships and versus Southwest Missouri State. Her six overall victories led the team.
