Lincoln, Neb.--The Nebraska women's tennis team moved up to No. 36 in the ITA national rankings released Tuesday, March 8. The ranking is the highest in school history, eclipsing the previous school record set two weeks ago when NU was ranked No. 38.
The Huskers are enjoying one of the most historic seasons in school history. NU owns a 12-2 record which includes five wins over ranked opponents, including then-No. 28 Texas A&M and then-No. 40 Oklahoma. This is believed to be the most wins by a Husker team over ranked opponents. Nebraska's only losses have come at the hands of then-No. 13 Texas and then- No. 16 Baylor.
Earlier this season, Gitte Ostermann held the No. 18 ranking in singles play, which is a school record. In doubles, the duo of Ostermann and senior Katie Garcia were ranked No. 23 in the country. This is also the highest doubles ranking in school history.
Nebraska takes its new ranking on the road Saturday, March 12 when it faces the Kansas Jayhawks. The Huskers will try to improve to 4-2 in the conference.
