Former Husker All-American John Cole begins his first season as a graduate manager for the Nebraska baseball program.

Cole will assist the Husker coaching staff with on-field duties, including helping with batting practice and bullpen catching while overseeing the undergraduate managers and helping with team video. He will also assist in on-campus recruiting and perform other administrative tasks, helping in the day-to-day operations of the program.

Cole earned first-team All-America honors in 2001, batting .418 with 11 homers, 61 RBIs and 28 stolen bases in helping the Huskers to their first regular-season conference title since 1950 and the school’s first ever College World Series appearance. He finished his career with a .380 average, the sixth-best total in school history, and was on NU’s top-10 lists in both hits (222) and stolen bases (59).

Cole was first the Husker baseball player to earn first-team All-America and first-team CoSIDA Academic All-America honors in the same season when he accomplished the feat in 2001. Cole was a fifth-round selection by the Seattle Mariners in 2001 and played two seasons in the Mariners organization before injuries ended his professional career. He received his degree in business administration from Nebraska in August of 2004.
