Fairbanks, Alaska - The Nebraska rifle team returned to the range Saturday and shot a 4,660 at the National Rifle Association Collegiate Sectional in Fairbanks, Alaska.
The Fairbanks sectional was one of many shot around the country. Results from each of the sectionals will be compiled by the NRA this spring, and a national champion will be named based on the scores.
Alaska-Fairbanks shot a 4,712 at the sectional, breaking an NRA collegiate record for air rifle with a score of 2,363. Nanook junior Jamie Beyerle tied a women’s NRA collegiate record in smallbore 3 x 20 course of fire. Her score of 590 tied the mark held Nebraska Head Coach Launi Meili.
The Huskers and the Nanooks will return to the range Sunday at 11 a.m., CST. Sunday's shoot will count as the team's NCAA qualifier score as well as serving as a head-to-head match with six-time defending national champion Alaska-Fairbanks.
