NU Men's Basketball Has Six Named to Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll

Lincoln --- Six players from the Nebraska men’s basketball team earned academic recognition Friday as they were selected to the 2004 Big 12 Commissioner’s Fall Honor Roll. Five of the honorees were repeat winners while one newcomer also made the squad.

Senior Jake Muhleisen and juniors Bronsen Schliep and Tony Wilbrand led the award winners, as each was named to the commissioner’s honor roll for the seventh consecutive semester. For Schliep, it was his seventh straight semester with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. A business administration major who has already been accepted to dental school, Schliep was one of 28 Nebraska student-athletes to earn a perfect GPA last semester.

Senior John Turek and junior Jason Dourisseau were honored for the fifth time in their careers. A two-time academic All-Big 12 first-team selection, Turek earned his degree in marketing in December 2004. He completed his undergraduate work in just three and one-half years and is currently pursuing an MBA.

Freshman Jim Ledsome earned the honor for the first time in his career. While redshirting his first season in the program, Ledsome is the seventh NU men's basketball player since 2001 to be recognized on the academic honor roll in his first semester enrolled at the university.

The Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes who earned a 3.0 grade-point average or higher during the previous semester. Overall, Nebraska had 257 student-athletes named to the fall honor roll, including 28 who produced perfect 4.0 GPAs during the fall semester.
