Hi All!
I hope you all enjoyed the first Husker home meet in person or via HuskersNside. The girls looked awesome! I think they were all a bit nervous, since it was the first home meet, but they came out fired up and ready to go. Prior to our meet, the girls all met at the Nebraska vs. Kansas Men's Basketball game to throw out Pepsi balls during halftime as a way to promote our meet. The girls were pumped up and ready to go from that point on! After surviving the halftime bit (the Kansas players were SO anxious to get their warm-up in that they almost flattened several of our girls), they all went to Ruby Tuesday's for lunch. When they arrived at 4:30 p.m. for our pre-meet preparations they were all smiles. We were all so excited to finally be home for a meet and to compete in front of our families and fans!
We started on vault and did a great job. This vault team is amazing! We have some very powerful and very clean vaults! We are hoping that Steph's ankle will be feeling better this week. She has a fantastic vault, and we love to watch her compete it. Em and Richelle were stellar as usual, and Kris, Britt, Michele, and Dez did a great job, and you can see the hard they put into their vaults every week is paying off. I can't wait to see how awesome these guys are going to be at the end of the season!
Bars has been a very consistent event for us this year. The girls are continuing to work on their handstands, form and landings. Each week the girls have gained confidence and are swinging bigger and cleaner.
Beam has improved a great deal since last year as we have several individuals with three flight series (flic flic lay as opposed to a flic lay) and have added some bigger dismounts and combinations throughout the routines. Again the girls are working on form and gaining confidence each week.
Floor – wow, what can I say about floor?? We have, without a doubt the most difficult tumbling of any collegiate team. And we do these dynamic skills with great form. That's the name of the game in college – FORM! We have two ladies competing a full-in and three others competing double layouts, not to mention a variety of high-level front tumbling passes. This floor team is one of, if not the best in the country! Dani, Michele, Dez and Kylee are all working hard on their tumbling and dance to be a part of this incredible line-up.
The most important thing about this group is TEAM! They all work together so well. From our seniors, Jamie and Richelle, to the freshmen and Ms. Vanessa running (sorry Tom, walking quickly) across the floor with mats for her teammates, these girls look out for each other and work hard for each other. These girls push each other every day to be the best team we can be. It's such a joy to be part of this group!
So, the meet went well and ended with a victory for NU, but more importantly it was another learning experience for us and we are already looking towards this week's meet at IowaState and how we can improve. We hope you can all make it to Ames to cheer this awesome team on! The meet is Friday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m.
PARENTS & FANS: We count on you for loud vocal support at home, but especially when we are away! We love to see signs waving and people cheering LOUDLY! The girls love it when we get to do HUSKER POWER or GOOOOO BIGGGGGG REDDDDDD, GO BIG RED!! So, please don't be shy, bring your voices and your Husker Pride out to as many meets as you can!! J The girls (and coaches) love it and thank you for it!!!!
REMEMBER OUR NEXT HOME MEET IS SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 20 AT 2:00 PM. WE WILL BE COMPETING AGAINST No. 1 UTAH! TELL YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS, WE WANT TO PACK DEVANEY!
Take care and have a great week!
