Hoppen to be Honored Saturday at NU-KU Basketball Game

Lincoln --- Dave Hoppen, the all-time leading scorer in Nebraska men's basketball history, will be honored Saturday at halftime of the Nebraska-Kansas game at the BobDevaneySportsCenter. Hoppen will be in attendance with his family: wife, Suzanne; son, Daniel; and daughter, Faith.

Hoppen has been a long-time supporter of the Nebraska basketball program, and continues his relationship by attending nearly all home games where he has season tickets. He is being honored for his performance on the court 20 years ago when he set six school single-season and career records, including scoring more points (704) in one year than any Husker ever. Nebraska reached postseason play every year Hoppen suited up for the Huskers.

Hoppen, a native of Omaha, also still holds NU career records for points (2,167), scoring average (19.5), field goals (804), free throws (559) and free-throw attempts (724). He also tops the Husker single-season charts for points, scoring average (23.5 ppg in 1984-85), field goals (270 in 1984-85) and minutes played (1,155 in 1984-85).

The first player in Nebraska men's basketball history to have his jersey retired, Hoppen was inducted into the Nebraska Basketball Hall of Fame in 1996. Hoppen was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in the third round of the 1986 draft and was the second pick in the 1988 expansion draft. He spent six seasons in the NBA.
