Huskers Earn Two Dual Victories

Omaha, Neb. - The Nebraska swimming and diving team improved to a perfect 7-0 on the season with an 83-24 victory over Northern Colorado and a 66-38 defeat of Nebraska-Omaha on Friday evening.

Nebraska used a balanced attack, as eight different Huskers took home first-place finishes in the 13-event meet. Nebraska also added a victory in the 200-yard medley relay (1:48.03), beginning a dominant day for the Big Red.

Sophomore Kate Wheeler highlighted the meet with a career-best performance of 10:00.00 in the 1,000-yard freestyle. The mark topped her previous best by seven seconds.

Sophomore Lauren Bailey also set a career best with a time of 2:07.47 in the 200-yard IM, good for first-place.

Senior Diana Torres competed in the 200-yard freesytyle for the first time this season, and picked up a victory in 1:55.46. Torres’ win was the third in a stretch that saw Nebraska win four of the first five races.

Omaha natives Michelle Criss and Bailey Ingles performed well in front of their hometown fans, as Ingles won the 100-yard backstroke in a career-best time of 1:00.56 and Criss earned a second-place finish the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.41).

Juniors Emily Becker and Alex King earned wins in the 500-yard freestyle (5:05.86) and 100-yard butterfly (58.74) while freshman Katie Bowden capped the day for the NU swimmers with a victory in the 100-yard freestyle (53.52).

Sophomore Danielle Stansbury took the honors for the divers, winning the three-meter dive with a score of 252.45. It was the Lincoln natives first victory of the year.

Nebraska will round out a busy two days of competition on Saturday when it travels to Iowa State for a match at 1 p.m.
