Lincoln, Neb.?The No. 71 Nebraska women’s tennis team will close out the opening weekend of the spring season with Colorado State Sunday, Jan, 23, in Lincoln at the Woods Tennis Center. NU looks to extend its home non-conference winning streak to 56 when it faces the Rams at 10 a.m.
The Huskers are coming off a dominating performance in which they defeated Creighton, 7-0 on Jan. 20 in Lincoln. The match was highlighted by the play of the Big Red's three newcomers. Freshman Imke Reimers blanked Deidre Senders of Creighton at the No. 2 singles slot, 6-0, 6-0, junior Ewelina Skaza defeated the Bluejays' Jennifer Burge, 6-2, 6-2, and freshman Ellinor Zugner rolled over Shannon Whelan, 6-3, 6-0.
The Huskers enter the match against CSU with the No. 1 ITA Central Region ranking in singles play, along with numerous individual rankings. Nebraska was also recognized on the doubles court. Senior captain Katie Garcia and Skaza received a No. 8 ITA Central Regional ranking, while Reimers and senior Gitte Ostermann, ranked No. 19 nationally in singles play, received a No. 11 central regional ranking.
