Husker Home Run Club Banquet Set for Feb. 5

Lincoln -- With the first pitch of the 2005 season less than a month away, the Husker Home Run Club is making plans for the Nebraska Baseball Preseason Banquet. The event will take place on Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Cornhusker Hotel (333 South 13th Street) in downtown Lincoln.

The banquet, which will raise money for the Husker Home Run Club, will by hosted by Pinnacle Sports Production's Jim Rose, the Voice of Husker Baseball. The evening will include dinner and remarks from Husker Head Coach Mike Anderson.

The guest speaker for the 2005 event is Jim Morris, whose remarkable journey from coaching high school baseball to reaching the Major Leagues after 11 years of being out of baseball was chronicled in the movie “The Rookie.”

“When we came up with the idea of a preseason banquet, we wanted to not only introduce our team to the Lincoln community, but to also bring people in who can share their stories on how baseball touched their lives,” Anderson said. “Jim represents the ultimate in determination, and we are looking forward to having him share his unique story not only with our team, but with fans in the community.”

The event will also feature an auction with numerous items, including a 2005 Husker jersey, a baseball diamond pendant, an autographed bat from former Husker all-star Darin Erstad, a tailgate party for 20 and other memorabilia and gift certificates.

The cost of the banquet is $50 per person or $450 for a table of 10 and all proceeds from the event will go to the Husker Home Run Club, and their support of the Nebraska Baseball program. Invitations were sent to Home Run Club members and season ticket holders earlier this month, and seats are still available for this annual event.
