Burgoyne Undefeated in First Round of Match-Play

Dallas, Texas -- Nebraska bowler Amanda Burgoyne went 8-0 on Thursday during the first eight games of match-play at the 2005 U.S. Amateur held at the Don Carter All-Star West Lanes in Dallas. Burgoyne, who is in 3rd place after 32 games, boosted her overall pinfall total to 6,552. She averages a 199.75 going into Fridays final eight matches.

Shannon Pluhowsky went 3-5 on the day with an overall pinfall of 6,372. She averages a 197.25 after dropping a few spots in the rankings after Thursdays matches. Pluhowsky has just eight games of match play remaining to move into a top-five position. Through 32 games, she currently stands in 13th place.

Husker sophomore Adrienne Miller went 6-2 during the first round of match play. Miller, who has dominated for much of the tournament, dropped out of the top-five today with an overall pinfall of 6,401 for a 196.28 average. She stands two spots in front of Pluhowsky in 11th place going into Fridays final eight match-play games.

Former Nebraska bowler, Diandra (Hyman) Asbaty, holds the fifth place position with a pinfall of 6,456, and an average of 199.88.

On Friday, all 24 remaining bowlers will compete in eight more match-play games. When the tournament concludes, the top five will automatically qualify for Team USA 2005, with another three being chosen by a national selection committee. The critia for the selection process includes a bowler’s overall performance, physical game, mental game, and team play. The three women will be notified before the awards ceremony, which be held Friday evening.

Team USA 2005 will compete in a number of tournaments all over the world. These tournaments the World Games, the World Tenpin Bowing Association (WTBA) World Women’s Championships, Tournament of the Americas, WTBA American Zone Championships, and the AMF World Cup.
