Austin, Texas - Sophomores Lauren Bailey and Kate Wheeler were part of a strong 1,650-yard freestyle performance as the Nebraska swimming and diving team took seventh-place in the three-day Texas Invitational.
Bailey swam a time of 16:47.04 to finish in sixth place in the event, while Wheeler finished seventh in 16:58.27. Four other Nebraska swimmers also placed in the top 20 of the event. Sophomore Casey Schnack (17:12.85) and Junior Mackenzie Clark (17:14.59) cracked the top 15 with 12th and 14th placings, respectively. Juniors Esmie Holderman (17:35.67) and Emily Becker (17:41.13) finished 19th and 20th to round out a strong race for the Huskers.
Two of NU's top breaststrokers in freshman Adrienne Goodman and junior Rachel Schlatter also performed well on the last day of competition. Goodman placed 14th with a time of 2:24.24 in the 200-yard breaststroke while Schlatter finished 16th in 2:29.38. Junior Lana Baker finished 20th in 2:29.43.
Sophomore Bailey Ingles contributed the last top-20 performance for NU with a 19th-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing in a time of 2:04.10.
Nebraska scored 214 points to earn its seventh-place finish in the 14-team field. The University of Texas won the meet with 821 points.
The Huskers will now take more than a month off of competition before traveling to the San Diego Invitational on January 7th. Nebraska makes its Big 12 home debut versus Kansas on Jan. 15 at 2 p.m.
