Milwaukee, Wis. -- Newcomer Adrian Szatmary fell in the consolation singles final at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic. Szatmary led the Huskers at the five-day tournament by finishing with a 4-2 record.
Szatmary fell in the final to Tommy Dennis, but not without pushing it to the limit. Dennis earned a 6-4 victory in the first set before Szatmary came back to claim a 7-5 second-set victory. In the deciding frame, Dennis had the upper hand while earning a 7-6 decision for the consolation title.
Szatmary reached the final match by defeating teammate Joerg Barthel in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, in the semifinals. A third Husker, Joel Reckewey, was also in the semifinals, where he fell to Dennis in another three-set decision. Dennis earned a chance at the final match by coming from behind to defeat Reckewey, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1.
The Huskers have concluded the fall portion of their schedule and will hit the courts for the spring season on Jan. 21 at the Rice Invitational in Houston.
