Timko Named Semifinalist for National Player of the Year

St. Louis, Mo. - Nebraska sophomore Brittany Timko, the Big 12 Conference Soccer Player of the Year, was named one of 15 semifinalists for the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy, the official National Soccer Coaches Association of America Player of the Year award for Division I.

Timko, who led the Big 12 in every statistical category except two, has scored 15 goals, notched 13 assists and totaled 43 points in 2004. She tied the Nebraska record by recording five game-winning assists this season, and scored three goals in a game twice this season and added three assists in a game on two occasions.

The Coquitlam, British Columbia, native is currently competing for the Under-19 Canadian National Team along with teammates Tanya Dennis and Sari Raber. The trio hopes to rejoin the Huskers during the NCAA Tournament.

The recipient of the award will be determined through voting by NSCAA Division I member coaches. The three women's finalists will be announced at the 2004 Men's College Cup in December. The winner will be announced on Jan. 7, 2005, in St. Louis.

As for the Huskers, they are coming off their best effort of the season, according to NU Head Coach John Walker. Against Texas in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament on Wednesday, NU dominated the game's first 35 minutes as the Longhorns were unable to mount any scoring threat until they connected on their first goal.

After a high-intensity battle against Texas, Nebraska is anxious to learn the pairings for the NCAA Tournament. The pairings will be announced on Monday afternoon with first-round action beginning on Friday.
