NU Hits the Grass Fields

Lincoln - The Nebraska football team concluded its full-scale preparations for Saturday’s road contest against Iowa State with a two-hour workout in sweat clothes on the grass practice field northeast of Memorial Stadium Thursday.

NU Head Coach Bill Callahan was pleased with the change of practice setting from the stadium’s FieldTurf to the grass fields, which the Huskers had not utilized in nearly two months.

"It was a good workout," Callahan said. "It’s good being on the grass. Our turf is in great shape out here, so we had an opportunity to get some good, quality work done. We weren’t at it too long, so that’s good. We didn’t wear out their legs and we got the chance to stay fresh."

Callahan said that playing with as much emotion as they did last week will be key if the Huskers plan to play well on the road this weekend.

"I hope we can bottle what we did last week," Callahan said. "The key is to maintain and improve what you’re doing. You want to improve upon your emotion in this game, because, let’s face it, it is an emotional game. You’ve got to come out every Saturday and play with that emotional pitch at a high level. If you don’t have that, you’re not going to be successful. The good teams, and the great teams, have that ability to turn that switch on."

Prior to leaving for Ames Friday afternoon, the Huskers will hold a short walkthrough practice inside Memorial Stadium.
