Huskers Head to Wisconsin

The Nebraska bowling team is travels to the Whitewater Invitational looking for their second straight tournament title this year. Nebraska will be joined by Central Missouri State, Arkansas State and the host school, UW-Whitewater.

The Huskers defeated all three teams last weekend en route to winning the Jonesboro Invitational title. Minnesota State-Mankato rounds out the five-team field. Action begins Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Hawk Bowl in Whitewater, Wis., and concludes on Sunday at 9 a.m.

Last year at the Whitewater Invitational Shannon Pluhowsky averaged a 254.000 in 10 games making her one of the first female bowlers to ever average a 250 or higher in a collegiate tournament. As a junior she led the Huskers to an 8-2 record and the tournament title.

Burgoyne Leads All-Tournament Team
Sophomore standout Amanda Burgoyne took first place overall at the Jonesboro Invitational last weekend. She was named to the all-tournament team with a 234 average. The five-player all-tournament team featured four Husker bowlers including: freshman Lindsay Baker (229.50), Shannon Pluhowsky who averaged a (228.66), and sophmore Adrienne Miller, who came in fourth with an average of (225.75). The individual tournament title was the second title in Burgoyne’s career at NU. Her first tournament title was at the Triad Women’s Classic in 2003 where she averaged a 236.80 over five games.

"Amanda has really stepped up her development," Head Coach Bill Straub said. "Her fundamentals are the best they have ever been, and I believe she is bowling better now than she ever has."

Jamie Martin- Competed in eight out of nine possible events last year...posted seven top-25 finishes in 2003-04...averaged a 206.364 in 55 games...best perfomance was at the Triad Women’s Classic where she finshed third overall and averaged a 227.000 in five games...averaged a 215 at the Jonesboro Invitational.

Adrienne Miller- As a true freshman, competed in eight out of nine tournaments...best showing was at the Holiday Collegiate Classic averaging a 225.25 in eight games... her father, Mike, is a member of the Pro Bowlers Association (PBA)....her aunt, Dana Miller-Mackie, is in the PBWA Hall of Fame...finished third overall at the Jonesboro Invitational averaging a 225.75 and made the all-tournament team.

Karla Engh- Became a valuable asset to the team late in the season... set a career high average of 217.400 at the NCAA Championships....averaged a 205.66 at the Jonesboro Invitational.

Nicole Aleo- Will provide depth through her experience...competed in just one tournament last year averaging a 188.833...as a true freshman she averaged a 183.68 in 25 games...at the Jonesboro Invitational, competed in one game and averaged a 192.

Lindsay Baker- Top high school recruit in 2004, according to Coach Straub...has bowled four 300 games...three-time member of the Junior Team USA (2001-02-03)...her uncle, Tom, is a member of the PBA...placed second overall averaging 229.50 in five games in her first tournament as a Husker.
