Huskers in the NFL: Week 6

Lincoln -- Several former Huskers made their impacts on Sunday during week six of the National Football League over the weekend.

In Foxboro, Mass., the battle between two of the best teams in the NFL was won by New England, as the Patriots scored 10 points in the fourth quarter to hold off the Seattle Seahawks, 30-20. In a reserve role, offensive lineman Russ Hochstein helped the Patriots win their NFL-record 20th consecutive game.  For the Seahawks, the loss came with a heavy price. Defensive end Grant Wistrom recorded six tackles, but will be sidelined for 4 to 6 weeks with a fractured knee. Josh Brown was a perfect 4-of-4 on field goals with a long of 50 yards. With the loss the Seahawks fell to 3-2 on the season.

At Ford Field in Detroit, Ahman Green helped get the Packers back on track as Green Bay blew out the Lions 38-10. For the game Green rushed for 81 yards on 21 attempts, while recording the first touchdown pass of his career, hitting Donald Driver in the fourth quarter for a 20-yard strike. For Detroit, Dominic Raiola helped limit the Packers defense to just one sack on the day, while Cory Schlesinger remained inactive. With the win, the Packers improved to 2-4, while the Lions fell to 3-2 and second place in NFC North.

Three former Huskers were featured as the San Diego Chargers battled the Atlanta Falcons in the Georgia Dome. For the game, offensive guard Toniu Fonoti helped the Chargers pass for 227 yards, but it was not enough as the Falcons exploded to put up 14 points late in the fourth quarter edging the San Diego Chargers 21-20. Defensively, rookie linebacker Demorrio Williams continues to shine recording four tackles and an additional tackle on special teams.  Veteran Eric Johnson played, but did not record a tackle. With the win, the Falcons improved to 5-1, and took control of first place in the NFC South Division.

Currently, Nebraska leads all Big 12 schools with 38 former players on NFL rosters - a total that ranks among the leaders for all schools.

The week's NFL action concluded with a Monday night showdown at the Edward Jones Dome between the St. Louis Rams and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Rams cornerback/punt returner Dejuan Groce made his second NFL start against the Buccaneers.
