Huskers Finish Fifth at Big 12 Relays

Lawrence, Kan.-The Nebraska swimming and diving team completed its first meet of the year with a fifth-place finish at the Big 12 Relays in Lawrence, Kan., on Friday. 

NU scored 39 points in the competition that was won by Texas A&M with 116.

Nebraska's highest finish came in the 1,500-yard freestyle relay.  The sophomore trio of Lauren Bailey, Kate Wheeler and Julie McCauley clocked a time of 15:27.16, earning them third place.  The Huskers also had two fourth-place finishes in the 800-yard freestyle and 800-yard individual medley relays.   Overall, Nebraska placed in 16 events.    

The Husker diving squad placed fifth in one-meter diving before placing third in three-meter dive with 234 points, just four points behind second-place Texas.

Nebraska returns to action next Friday when it travels to Springfield, Mo., to take on Southwest Missouri State.  The start time is set for 4 p.m.
