Baker Named Offensive Player of the Week

<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Dallas, Texas ? Junior forward Nikki Baker was named the Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, the league-high fourth Big 12 offensive player-of-the-week honor and league-high fifth Big 12 player-of-the-week honor for the Nebraska soccer team this season.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

 

Baker enjoyed a career day against Texas in the Huskers’ 4-3 win on Friday. The Bixby, Okla., native set career highs with two assists and six points and tied a career high by scoring two goals. Her two-goal, two-assist performance was enough to earn her a second career Big 12 player-of-the-week honor. She was also named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week in 2002.

 

For the season, Baker has scored nine goals, notched two assists and totaled 20 points. Her 20 points match her career high for points in a season, set in her freshman season. Baker ranks second in the Big 12 in game-winning goals (three), third in goals (nine), fourth in goals per game (0.64), fifth in points (20), and points per game (1.43), ninth in shots per game (2.43) and 10th in shots.

 

Nebraska wraps up a four-game homestand this weekend when it plays host to Texas Tech at 7 p.m. on Friday and Baylor at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
