Huskers Return to Practice Field

The Nebraska football team returned to the practice field on Sunday afternoon, as it continued preparations for Saturday night’s Big 12 Conference opener against <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Kansas in Lincoln. Nebraska’s return to the practice field on Sunday consisted of a one-hour and 45-minute workout in half pads on the Memorial Stadium FieldTurf.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

 

The Huskers took advantage of their bye weekend, giving the players Friday and Saturday off from practice. Head Coach Bill Callahan said the Huskers had a good practice in perfect weather conditions on Sunday and the players had good focus during the workout.

 

Nebraska began its Sunday by taking the 2004 team picture and position group pictures at Memorial Stadium, followed by team meetings and the afternoon workout.

 

Nebraska will face a solid Kansas team in its league opener Saturday. The Jayhawks are 2-2 on the season, with their two losses coming by a total of four points, including a 31-30 setback in Lawrence on Saturday.

 

Nebraska has a long history of success against Kansas, winning 35 straight matchups in the series since 1968. The Huskers also have had great success opening conference play, winning 29 of its last 30 league openers, with five of those victories over the Jayhawks.

 

The Huskers will take Monday off from practice, before resuming its normal game-week routine with practice on Tuesday.
